In Penumbra

Kinesis Dance somatheatro marks its landmark 30th anniversary with the world premiere of In Penumbra, as part of the Vancouver International Dance Festival at the Scotiabank Dance Centre.

In Penumbra continues on the creative path of Terezakis’ 2015 U>W and our futile quest to find utopia in a dystopic world. The multi media work uses sculptural light installation, live video feed and a surround-sound score to create an otherworldly environment for the audience and the performers.

“The perpetual journey continues. In this work I chose to explore not just the concept of light and darkness/hope and despair, but more importantly the penumbra – that ‘grey area’ between light and shadow.”

With the performers, we explore this area as the thing that traps us in the ‘in between’, that place of contradictions, disillusion and disappointment that prevents us from reaching our true desire. We realize how this quest for enlightenment can bring out the best and the worst in all of us as we can be easily misguided in our complex and self serving world.
