Palimpsest – I Wear My Suit Where Am I Going?

1990
Dancing on the Edge Festival
Firehall Arts Centre

Vancouver, BC

This piece is a short solo, a structured improvisation that asks “Where am I going?” The dictionary defines palimpsest as a parchment or the like from which writing has been partially or completely erased to make room for another text suggesting the layering of information or thoughts. In the piece repetitive body movements, vibrations, jumps, and spirals take the viewer to a memory impression of what was and begs the question of “where next?”

The piece was inspired by and set to the music of Greek Composer Yiannis Xenakis.
